The Invisible Love
Living in a life where you find yourself unable to explain to yourself, as to why you’re sleeping with a man. This was the life that E. Lynn Harris had wrote about in his book which was fiction, that told the story of a black American man sleeping with men in his first book that was published by him. The book was called the Invisible life were he told the story of black men who saw themselves as man who just happened to sleep with men and didn’t see themselves as gay.
In 1991when AIDS/HIV was beginning to hit the black straight women community very hard, straight women were getting AIDS/HIV from these men who were sleeping with men. Even though E. Lynn Harris came on the scene at that time, telling the black straight community that this was out there, men sleeping with men; the straight black community was still walking around with their head in the sky.
With all of this going on the women were getting sick behind the down low factor. It is very sad to say that the word Down Low is a house hold name now. The facts remain that gay and lesbian community has always know all the while that these men were sleeping with men and not letting their female lover know what was going on with them.
Yes E. Lynn Harris was the first to bring this phenomenon to the front of the black community, but did he do an injustice by put pretty themes behind this life style that is still killing black women and bring down families.
Now we have J. L. King who is a bisexual man telling his story about being in the Down low life style in a nonfiction way.

The problem isn't exclusive to BLACK men. I don't hink it makes a difference--black or white.
